You are flesh and blood. The legal person is a paper construct that wears your name in capitals. Two entities, one body, two completely different statuses.
The living being is born. It breathes, eats, makes choices, owns its labour, holds standing in common law. It cannot be owned. It cannot be taxed without consent. It cannot be bound by statute it has not contracted into, because statute is a set of rules drafted for fictions the lawmakers themselves created.
The legal person is registered. It has a number, a date of registration, a presumed home address, and a long list of obligations that came with its creation. It can be summoned, billed, prosecuted, and disposed of by the same body that made it. That is what registration means.
Almost every official letter you have ever received was addressed to the person, but you read it as though it were addressed to you. You answered for the fiction. You signed as the fiction. You appeared in court as the fiction. The two were treated as one and you carried the liabilities of both.
The hinge
Once you can hold the two apart in your mind, the rest of this course makes sense. When a letter comes, ask one question before any other: who is this addressed to, and in what capacity am I being asked to answer?
If the letter is addressed to JOHN ADAM SMITH and demands payment of council tax under a statute, that is a letter to the legal person. The living man may choose, lawfully, to answer on its behalf. He may also, lawfully, decline to do so. Either way, the choice is his. It is not automatic.
The whole system runs on automatic. Most people answer for the person every day of their lives without ever realising they had a choice. This course is about putting the choice back in your hands.
Tactical caution
The other side will not respect the distinction. Their staff are trained to treat you and the person as the same party, and their software is built on that assumption. Holding the distinction is for you, not for them. It changes how you read letters, how you sign correspondence, how you respond to demands. It does not, by itself, dissolve a debt or stop a court date.
What it does is give you standing to write back from a position they cannot answer cleanly. That is the foothold. The rest of the course shows you what to do with it.
